SDA Church Supports Upper East School with Furniture
News Date: 5th March 2010

The Ghana Union Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) has presented 100 pieces of dual desks worth 64,700 Ghana cedis to Anowaam SDA Primary and Junior High Schools at Tindonmolgo in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

In addition, the Union also renovated the School to give it a facelift.

Presenting the furniture to the School, the General Manager of SDA Schools in Ghana, Mr. Peter Yaw Frempeh, said the Church made the

presentation because the school was in dire need of furniture which made it difficult for teaching and learning.

He expressed the optimism that the provision of the furniture would help improve teaching and learning, and appealed to the teachers to redouble their efforts in teaching.

He was not happy that a refuse dump had been sited very close to the school and said it exposed the school children to danger and diseases.

Mr. Frempeh appealed to the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to come to the aid of the school by providing a fence wall to prevent the school land from being encroached upon.

Ms. Monica Atibila, one of the Headmistresses of the School, said the school was established in 1985 and now had a population of 740 pupils. It therefore needed extra classroom blocks in order to stop the shift system it is currently running and which, she said, affected effective teaching and learning.

She said another major challenge facing the school was the lack of drinking water and toilet facilities for the school children.

The Regional Manager of the Adventist Education Unit in charge of the three Northern Regions, Mr. Elias Kwaku Amoa, cautioned the management of the school to take good care of the furniture to ensure that its lifespan was prolonged.

The Assistant Director in Charge of Finance and Administration of the Ghana Education Service (GES) who received the items on behalf of the

Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Agnes Atagabe, thanked the Church for the donation and said it would complement government's efforts in delivering quality education.

She entreated other organizations to emulate the example of the SDA Church by also contributing to the development of education which was essential for national development.
