Larissa's Mexican striker Antonio de Nigris died of a suspected heart attack, said the Greece club on Monday.

The 31 year old Mexican striker felt sick during the night and his wife Sonia called an ambulance. But de Nigris was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to Larissa's University Hospital early Monday morning.

"The Larissa family mourns from today the tragic loss of 31-year-old international Mexican footballer, Antonio De Nigris," a club statement said.

An autopsy will be held at the General Academic Hospital in Larissa to determine the death of De Nigris, who signed for Larissa in August.

De Nigris, who had a 5-year-old daughter Miranda, started his career in Monterey, and played for Viyareal, Pumas, and Santos.

The striker represented Mexico 16 times including at the 2001 Copa America. He previously played for Turkish club Ankaragucu before he joined

Larissa and made six appearances in the Greek Super League.
