Bonsu rules out FA presidency
News Date: 24th November 2009    View Comments: (1)

Kojo Bonsu has ruled out a bid for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association in response to biting criticism of him by Kwasi Nyantekyie after his allegations of incompetence against the present administration.

Bonsu reckons the GFA is hiding behind FIFA’s no government interference in football to get away with too many things and suggested there was laxity in the system that could breed corruption.

“The government has every right and authority, with the full support of FIFA, to get involved in anything concerning the national teams. It can also call for accounting of every pesewa that has to do with the national teams, agree on who coaches them, how much they have to be paid, agree on bonuses for national team players and officials, ask questions on appearance fees during friendly matches, who has to make a trip, among others, and FIFA will not raise a finger,” he said.

But in a sharp rebuttal, GFA president Kwasi Nyantekyie claims Bonsu was repeating recycled allegations and winging from his loss to him in the GFA presidential race.

“Kojo Bonsu should stop peddling these lies about the GFA and its members and make his intentions clear,” Nyantakyi said. “We know that he has been consistently interested in the GFA presidency and that is why he is adopting these desperate measures.”

But Bonsu insist his interest is not the FA presidency but for transparency in the running of the game.

"I have moved on to bigger things in life. I will not contest the 2011 elections," Bonsu said. "I am a football enthusiast and thus when I see things going wrong I have the right to voice it out."

"Ghana has spent US$ 3m on the Black Stars since April and when I say there must be transparency I have done no wrong."
