Nearly 5,900 companies went bankrupt in Denmark in 2009, a 50-percent increase over 2008, according to news reaching here from Copenhagen on Tuesday.
Agriculture, fisheries, financial nstitutions, production companies and the health sector were worst hit by the economic crisis, with the highest increases in bankruptcies, the Danish daily Politiken said in a report.
But the bankruptcy rising rate declined in December 2009, with 564 companies having been bankrupt, compared with 596 in December 2008, the
Danish economy still has a long way to go, the report added.
The third quarter of 2009 showed a slight 0.6 percent improvement in Danish GDP, according to the latest figures from Statistics Denmark, which
showed that the improvement was driven by public and private consumption.
