IFC held its fourth international health care conference in Washington, D.C., from May 25 through May 27. The conference, "The Road Ahead: What Next for Emerging Market Private Health Care," explored the future of private health care in developing countries, bringing together about 200 IFC clients, experts, and thought leaders from the private health sector, life sciences, insurance, government, academia, and finance. Key topics included the challenges of investing across borders in emerging markets; expanding the client base to reach more patients; changing care through technological innovation; the role of the private health sector in medical education; improving business performance through better corporate governance; and dealing with the threat of counterfeit medicines.
