Gold futures rose in New York Thursday as equities on Wall Street were mixed on concerns Greece is headed for a default on its debt.
On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold gained $3.60 to $1,529.80 per troy ounce.
Crude oil prices were little changed, adding 16 cents to $94.98 per barrel for July delivery West Texas Intermediate.
The euro rose to $1.4191 from Wednesday's $1.4181. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 80.63 yen from Wednesday's 80.95 yen.
The dollar was mostly higher in Asia and mixed in Europe. The dollar index, a pro-rated measure of the dollar against six major currencies, was flat, dropping 0.05 percent.
The dollar rose to 7.802 Hong Kong dollars from 7.7908 HKD. Against the Indian rupee, the dollar rose to 44.805 rupees from 44.746 rupees.
Against the won, the dollar rose to 1,088.84 won from 1086.05 won.
The British pound fell to $1.6149 from $1.6193. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.9821 Canadian dollars from 0.9789 Canadian.
