Anaina International Company Limited, a Real Estate Developer, has pledged to provide a set of cassava processing equipment to the Abutia Women’s Association.
The Company has also given the Association GHC20,000 as seed money to enhance the lots of women in the area whose main economic activity is cassava processing. Mr Clemence Gyato, the Chief Executive Officer of the Company, who made the presentation at the maiden Women/Girls’ Day celebration of the Association at Abutia-Teti. said the Company was moved by the hassle the women and girls were going through processing cassava manually.
The celebration was aimed at promoting girl-child education in the farming community with a relatively high rate of girls dropping out of school between 13 and 19 years. The Community also has high incidence of teenage pregnancy with a number of child mothers who are into farming and cassava processing, mostly done manually.
Mr Gyato said the economic empowerment of women was important in sustaining the local economy and expressed the hope that the support would help the women to expand their businesses.
Madam Dzifa Attivor, a former Minister of Transport, a native of Abutia, who initiated the Women/Girls’ Day celebration, said it was unfortunate that girls in the area started school well but dropped out later.
She said the event was to help encourage and mentor girls to appreciate education and become responsible citizens. Mama Ayipe Ama VI, the Queenmother of Abutia-Kloe, commended Madam Attivor for the foresight and appealed to the Government to provide potable water to the community.
