Mr John Awuah, the Chief Executive Officer, UMB, made the disclosure at the maiden UMB Press Soiree in Accra, that was attended by over 80 business reporters, editors and managers of both the private and state owned media.

Mr Awuah announced that the UMB’s plan was to bring a world class media practitioner, in collaboration with the GJA to organise the workshop for media practitioners.

He said participants at the workshop would include; business reporters and key media personnel, would interact and have discussions and some talking points with people who have done it at the extremely higher level and also on the international circles.

Mr Awuah noted that the UMB would continue to support the GJA in the organisation of its annual awards.

He further assured the GJA President that their network and connection with GJA was not going to end there; stating that "our network and connection with the GJA is going to continue into a foreseeable future, because we have decided to contribute to the development of strong media. As a private bank we want also do our share of media building by helping build the fourth estates of our country."

Mr Affail Monney, the GJA President, lauded UMB for supporting the Association in organisation of its annual awards.

He said it was of strategic necessity for both the GJA and UMB to work together, not only to bring about qualitative improvement in the media landscape but also to promote Ghana's economic outlook.

He expressed gratitude to UMB for its plans to bring out an expert to organise a workshop for media professionals.

Mr Monney further appealed to Corporate Ghana to emulate UMB's shining example.

Mr Ransford Tetteh, the Acting Managing Director, Graphic Communications Group, also urged Corporate Ghana to extend their support to all the media houses - private, state, print and electronic; so that they would continue to ensure that Ghana's democracy grows from strength to strength.

Acting President of Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) Mr Kenteman Nii Laryea Sowah, also appealed to the Board and Management of UMB to invest in the media, especially the private media.

He said growing the media was the only way through which businesses could grow.
