Touching on development the Moderator proposed to the government to introduce effective structural reforms into the econ­omy to sustain the current gains made so far.

The Rt Rev. Dzomeku said it was the expectation of the church and Ghanaians to see the current economic gains made reflect in the pockets of the citizenry, which would transform their conditions of living.

He stressed the need for the government not to become complacent about the successes chalked in the management of the economy.

Rt Rev. Dzomeku said the church lauded government for the introduction of the “Feed Ghana Programme”, and said the church had encouraged all its congrega­tions and presbyteries with farm­lands and other resources to take advantage of the programme, and engage in farming as a means of generating extra income to finance their activities.

The Moderator appealed to Ghanaians not to take the peace being enjoyed for granted, and urged them to guard it jealously, and distance themselves from engaging in acts that were likely to affect the peace of the country.

According to him, the church acknowledged the seri­ousness the government attached to the fight against illegal mining popularly called ‘’galamsey’’ in the country, and urged government not to relent in its efforts at getting rid of the existential threat it posed to human survival.

The synod prayed for the government, the President, John Dramani Mahama, and Ministers of state for guidance and protec­tion at all times to enable them to serve the country effectively.

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, said the helicopter crash was devastat­ing, and the Minister who was down in spirit, managed to give a short speech at the programme without the usual charisma that he was noted for whenever he gave a speech at functions.

Mr Gunu called for effective church and government collabo­ration to promote development in an atmosphere of peace, which he said would enable the propagation of the gospel to grow and ensure stability of the church.
