Prudential Bank has once again declared its commitment to the fight against Prostate Cancer as the Bank joins the global effort to educate and sensitise the public about the disease throughout the month of September.
In line with its corporate social responsibility, the Bank will organise a series of screening events in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale. This follows success in a similar exercise embarked on by the Bank in 2024, during which over one thousand men benefitted.
The campaign, which aligns with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – good health and well-being, will educate staff, customers and the public about prostate cancer, highlighting the importance of early detection and support for those affected.
Through activities such as educational sessions, health screenings and sponsorships, the Bank aims to deepen understanding of the disease and encourage proactive health practices.
According to the Managing Director of Prudential Bank, Mr Bernard Gyebi, the campaign is to ensure that the disease is a matter of great importance for people, especially men who are at risk.
“Our goal is to ensure that we deliver on our core responsibility, which is to our shareholders, customers, and employees, while contributing to a more sustainable society,” he said. “Prostate cancer is a disease which requires critical attention.
Embarking on this exercise is our way of supporting the efforts at prevention and early detection among the population who are at risk.”
Beyond the screening exercises, the Bank will also share informative content on prostate cancer on its website and social media platforms throughout the month and conduct internal activities for staff to educate and engage them on the disease.
“We believe everyone should have access to accessible and affordable healthcare, and we are committed to supporting initiatives that promote health and well-being.
We are confident that our efforts will contribute to a better understanding of prostate cancer and improved health outcomes for men in Ghana,” said Mr Gyebi.
The Bank’s commitment to employee well-being is reflected in its internal engagements, aimed at educating staff on prostate cancer. “Our staff are our greatest asset, and we strive to create a healthy work environment that supports their well-being,” said Lilian A. Asante, Head of Human Resource.
The Bank will also advocate for funding in prostate cancer research and offer financial support to selected individuals affected by the disease.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men worldwide. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, with over 1.4 million new cases diagnosed globally each year. In Ghana, prostate cancer is a significant health concern, with many cases being diagnosed at advanced stages.
Prostate cancer can have a significant impact on individuals, families, and communities. If left undetected or untreated, prostate cancer can lead to serious health complications, reduced quality of life, and even death.
Early detection and treatment can significantly improve outcomes and survival rates.
Given these facts, Prudential Bank believes it is essential to continue its efforts in promoting prostate cancer awareness and education to work towards reducing the burden of prostate cancer and improving health outcomes for men.
