The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, commissioned a cassava processing factory at Nteso in the Fanteakwa North District.
The facility, constructed at a cost of GH¢446,974.90, is expected to process cassava into gari, create employment opportunities, and stimulate the local economy.
The project is a collaboration between the Fanteakwa North District Assembly and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

Mrs Awatey described the commissioning as a significant milestone in the economic transformation of the district and the region, noting that the factory would help address challenges faced by cassava farmers, including post-harvest losses and price instability.
She expressed optimism that the facility would open up job opportunities for the youth of Nteso and surrounding communities, while promoting income generation, industrial growth, and economic empowerment.

The Minister emphasised the importance of value addition, stating that processing raw cassava into finished products would shift farmers from subsistence production to agribusiness and help transform agriculture into a profitable enterprise.

She urged the community to support the factory’s operations and increase production to serve the district and beyond, and commended the District Assembly and UNCDF for their collaboration in bringing the project to fruition.
