Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, Minister of Tourism
on Monday hosted a team of American investors currently in Ghana to explore avenues of investment in the tourism and entertainment industry.
The dream of the investors from 'Atlantic Crossing', an American based public-private partnership, was to elevate Accra to a "celebrated city" that would serve as the tourism capital of West Africa.
The leader of the team, Mrs Suzanne M. Graham said the company would create a special district equipped with world-class facilities to improve the local art, cultural, and entertainment industry to create wealth for the country.
She said the hotels in the district would be equipped with the best sewer treatment and effective storm water management systems, with the major roads, streets and pavements absorbing 1500 and 2000 hotel and residential flats
components respectively.
According to her, the project would reverse the brain drain trend in the country to what she referred to as "brain gain" where people in the Diaspora would want to permanently settle in Ghana and practice their trade.
Mrs Graham said other areas of the Ghanaian economy such as media art, agriculture, shipping and logistics, and sales and marketing would be
developed, adding "We will not feed the numerous tourists on imported food, entertain them with foreign music but will depend on the expertise of the local people in these areas".
She said the company would create the platform for Ghanaian entrepreneurs to operate.
Mrs Azumah-Mensah lauded the prospect of the project and pledged government's support to ensure its success.
