At a closed-door meeting with the NEC in Accra yesterday, Nana Akufo-Addo told the members that the task of forming a government to fulfil the promises made during the campaign season was a huge one.

It required a solid team to be able to deliver to the expectations of Ghanaians, he explained.
So far, no names have been officially announced.

The chairman of the party’s campaign team that won last week’s elections, Mr. Peter Mac Manu, who confirmed this to the media after the meeting, said the President-elect had urged the members who would be considered for positions, to work hard to ensure the success of his government.

“It is an enormous task, nevertheless, going by the record of John Agyekum Kufour’s presidency, we are bound to succeed, and Nana Addo minces no words in asking for hard work. The answer is in hard work,” Mr. Mac Manu stated.

“The President-elect says he is going to do a lot of consultations, but we must also bear in mind that the buck stops with him. He is the final decision-maker,” he said, and indicated that the President-elect was under no pressure to name his Cabinet.

The Campaign Chairman said the party promised the electorate that it would deliver when given the mandate, and added that yesterday’s meeting was to decide the way forward, now that the party had been given the mandate to govern the country.
Aside from discussing the herculean task of forming a government to deliver on the promises made during the campaign season, Mr. Mac Manu said the NEC discussed the party’s resounding victory in the presidential and parliamentary polls, as well as the large number of women the party was presenting to the next Parliament.

In an answer to a question,he said the party did not discuss any plan of bringing back the former members who had been suspended for their misconduct.
“We also discussed the transition and the leader of the transition team, Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo, briefed us on the transition and some hiccups that have come up, but he thinks that they will be able to resolve them within the next few days,” he said.
A member of the party’s Council of Elders, Professor Mike Ocquaye, also told newsmen that he would gladly accept the position of the Speaker of the next Parliament when given the opportunity.
“Of course, if given, I will do what I have to do in the name of God,” Prof Ocquaye said when asked whether he was ready to take up the position when given the opportunity.
