TO Ghanaian rapper Ko-Jo Cue, music isn't just a passion; it's a profession demanding the same respect and rigour as any other career.
According to him, musicians who treat their art as a serious enterprise don't just build a music career—they also build a toolkit for success in any field.
This is because “in music, every minute counts. The time and effort invested in creating, performing, and understanding the industry is never wasted. Every hour invested in the craft is value-added,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
Explaining why making music is no different from a regular job, Ko-Jo Cue said “the grind of the industry—the creation, the performance, the hustle—is an investment in oneself”.
“The skills honed through music, such as discipline, creativity and teamwork, are applicable beyond the stage and can benefit other areas of your life.
“Also, if you know how to leverage your music experience, it can serve as strong credentials on your CV and open new opportunities,” he added.
During his two-year hiatus from performing, Ko-Jo Cue, born, Linford Kennedy Amankwaa, maintained his connection to the music industry by working at a music marketing company. (Read Shatta Wale released by EOCO after bail was reduced to GH¢5 million)
He leveraged his expertise to empower other artistes, building a powerful network and absorbing every shifting trend from a new vantage point.
“Staying connected with the music marketing community helped me offer my expertise to others and build relationships, which is essential for maintaining connections in the industry.
“It allowed me to do what I love without being constantly in the limelight. I also used the period to rest, reflect and regain my creative energy,” Ko-Jo Cue stated.
This strategic move ensured that when he was ready, his comeback would be relevant and seamless.
And that was what happened. He made a strong comeback in March this year with Abebrese, a song that reintroduced him to fans and reaffirmed his presence in the music scene.
He’s barely paused since then. He has continued to create music, and his current single is Onnipa Hia Mmoa, featuring Ayisi.
