Bad Bunny is revealing why he stopped performing in the United States.
The "Caught Stealing" star, in an interview with I-D magazine published Wednesday, Sept. 10, said his announcement that he wouldn't be performing in the U.S. – amid a 30-show stadium residency in Puerto Rico – was out of concern over the U.S. political climate.
"There were many reasons why I didn't show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate," he told the outlet. "Specifically, for a residency here in Puerto Rico, when we are an incorporated territory of the U.S. … people from the U.S. could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world."
The singer cited the Trump administration's mass deportation of Latinos as a specific motivation for his decision to stop doing shows in the U.S.
"ICE could be outside (my concert). And it's something that we were talking about and very concerned about," he said.
Bad Bunny announced the stadium residency in his home country in January, assuring fans he would eventually be making the rounds to other countries.
"There are places I for sure will return to, like Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia. And some I've never been to but would like to visit, like Brazil and Japan," he said in Spanish, in a video announcing the residency on social media. "And there are places I haven't been to in a long time, like Italy, London, Spain. But for now, I'm in Puerto Rico. I'm home, having fun and, to be honest, I don't want to leave."
The album's all-stadium world tour kicks off Nov. 21 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and ends July 22 in Brussels. The tour does not have any dates scheduled in the continental U.S.

Bad Bunny's Puerto Rican residency, which wraps Sunday, Sept. 14, is in support of his chart-topping sixth studio album, "Debí Tirar Más Fotos" and reflects the musical styles he grew up with and lyrically tackles the cultural identity and the socio-political challenges of the island.
He has been critical of President Donald Trump. On July 4, Bad Bunny released the music video for "NUEVAYoL," in which he appears to take a stand against Trump's anti-immigrant policies and rhetoric. Toward the end of the video, the reggaeton star does what sounds like a Trump impression while taking a pro-immigration stance.
And before the 2024 election, the singer posted a video of Kamala Harris pledging to boost Puerto Rico's economy. He specifically highlighted one quote from Harris: "I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader. He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes and offered nothing more than paper towel and insults."
