The three refurbished wards of the children's block of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), was on Monday inaugurated at a ceremony at the hospital in Kumasi.
The project, which involved the laying of new tiles, replacement of bathroom fittings, painting, curtains and the provision of three TV sets for the wards B4, B5 and C5 was funded by the Trinity Baptist Church, London, at the cost of 200 million cedis.
Speaking at the ceremony, Pastor Kingsley Appiagyei, Head Pastor of the church, thanked the hospital for the opportunity given to the church to contribute to its development.
He said the welfare of children was one of the social responsibilities of the church and would continue to explore ways to improve the lots of children in the country.
Pastor Appiagyei said the church planned to undertake the second phase of the project, which would involve the changing of the windows and doors at the wards into sliding ones and install new mosquito nets at the cost of 12,200 pounds.
Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare, Chief Executive Officer of KATH thanked the church for the project.
He said the project was in line with the hospital's endowment fund, which aimed at renovating the blocks of the hospital, which had not seen any major rehabilitation since its establishment fifty years ago.
Dr Gyikua Plange-Rhule, Head of the Child Health Directorate of KATH, said the refurbishment had brought tremendous transformation to the wards and brought positive atmosphere, which had rekindled the spirit of the staff and thanked the church for the gesture.
