The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) will on Tuesday February 12 meet to consider a letter written to them by Dr Frank Serebour, Executive Secretary of GMA concerning its strike action.
The letter recommends the establishment of a committee to discuss the concerns which have led to the withdrawal of services to all out-patients and attend to only emergency and in-patients cases.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Dr Kwabena Opoku Adusei, President of GMA, said NEC will meet to discuss the contents of the letter with careful consideration.
"We want government to go by the time line set out by the Labour Commission and if our concerns are not resolved, it will be bad for the nation," he added
The statement issued by Dr Frank Serebour and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Feb 10, said doctors from Monday February 18, will stop all services including emergency care as well as in-patient care until further notice.
It said the withdrawal of service will last till Sunday February 17.
It explained that the decision was taken after all the series of meetings, consultations and correspondence with stakeholders like the National Labour Commission (NLC), Ministry of Health and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission following the migration of doctors to the Single Spine Salary Structure.
