The Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo said on Sunday in Bamako that his country was to help Mali fight against terrorists and train the country's security forces.
The Spanish diplomat said that he was in Mali "to see what is its situation and what are some of the needs of the Malian government" and also added that his country "will be part of the European Union mission for training Mali's security forces."
"We shall see the role we can play to help Mali stop the advancement of terrorists, and put in place a dialogue and mediation commission," Garcia said after meeting with Mali's Interim President Dioncounda Traore and his Foreign Minister Tieman Hubert Coulibaly.
While recalling that Spain did not suspend its humanitarian aid to Mali following the March 22, 2012 coup d'etat, Garcia said his country will develop its cooperation with Mali, because the transition roadmap that was adopted in early February by the Malian parliamentarians is "a sufficient condition" for the two countries to continue cooperating.
