Mr Mathew Ayamba, Physician Assistant at the Tongo Health Centre in the Talensi District, at the weekend called for support for health facilities in the area, to enable them to delivery quality health care.
He said the facilities lacked adequate number of health professionals, especially midwives, had difficulty in sustaining free ambulance services for women in labour coupled with delay in refund of National Health Insurance Scheme fund and insufficient monitoring and supervision.
Mr Ayamba, who was speaking at a meeting, organised for staff of health facilities in the Talensi and Nabdan Districts, to take stock and review their performance and plan for subsequent years.
He also complained of inadequate accommodation for staff and equipment and medical suppliers to health facilities.
Mr Ayamba said despite the problems, some Community Health Nurses had been sponsored to pursue midwifery programmes.
Madam Agnes Zizinga, District Director of Public Nursing, called on health managers to improve the capacities of health personnel to enhance the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals four and five by 2015.
She said clinical and health campaigns would be intensified to reduce the incidence of malaria and other communicable diseases
