The French Embassy in Benin has issued fresh security warning to French citizens in the country, noting that there are still threats of attacks or abductions across over 80 percent of Benin's national territory.
"The situation has not changed regarding the over 80 percent of Benin's national territory where French citizens should be more cautious, but where they have not been advised not to visit," the statement said.
It noted further that the French government was confident that Benin's authorities were capable of providing security for all people within the country's national territory.
The ministry's statement had indicated that "Benin's authorities were engaged in efforts to reinforce surveillance especially in exposed regions but the risk of terrorist attacks or kidnapping exist in Benin just like in all other sub-regional countries." "The French authorities have a right to warn their citizens to avert situations like the recent unfortunate incident when our citizens were kidnapped in Cameroon," the statement said.
