The Awutu Effutu Senya branch of the National Health Insurance Authority registered 6,347 fresh members for the Scheme, and activated 4,617 NHIA ID Cards for clients whose membership have expired, all within the first five working days of February this year.
Of the newly-registered members, young people under 18 years constituted the highest number of 3,401, followed by those in the informal sector, 2,543, pregnant women 205, and people aged 70 years and above who were 135.
People under 18 years again placed first with 2,010 when it came to the activated ID Cards, followed by the informal sector, 1937, SSNIT contributors 310, above 70 years, 267 and pregnant women who stood at 92.
The District Manager of the Awutu Effutu Senya branch of the NHIA, Mr. Josiah Doam Kittoe (Jnr.), disclosed these to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba on Wednesday.
He said the exercise formed part of a nation-wide special registration programme initiated by the management of the Authority in Accra early this year.
Addressing NHIA workers and National Service Personnel currently working with the Scheme later, Mr. Kittoe praised them for the great commitment and hard work they collectively injected into the operations of the Scheme during the special registration and the brisk data entry activities thereafter, and advised them to strive to sustain what he termed the "excellent working qualities" they had cultivated for the advancement of the NHIA and the Nation.
Mr. Kittoe assured the workers of management's preparedness to provide the much expected leadership qualities to the ensure smooth and orderly administration of the Scheme, and charged them to back up this move with a high level of discipline.
Mr. Joseph Yaw Owusu-Kwarteng, outgoing Public Relations Officer of the Scheme, also advised both Management and workers to maintain the spirit of togetherness they had developed to enable them to sustain the good image that the Scheme had carved for itself in recent times.
Mr. Owusu-Kwarteng however charged the Management not to hesitate to point out the mistakes of the junior workers to them at the right time, saying that correction was an effective means of sustaining the confidence and trust they had reposed in the management
