Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Dwomoh, Nkoranza North District Chief Executive, has commended teachers for their invaluable role and contribution to the production of quality human resource and manpower needed for national development.
Addressing more than 300 lower primary school teachers and circuit supervisors drawn from the district at a workshop in Nkoranza, Mr. Adjei-Dwomoh urged teachers to continue with their hard work since the government was working hard to improve on their conditions of service.
The workshop was organised by the district directorate of education to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills in handling pupils at the lower primary level with literacy skills to read both Ghanaian and English languages.
Mr. Adjei-Dwomoh advised the teachers to lead exemplary lifestyles as role models in the communities.
He disclosed that the District Assembly would embark on a massive renovation of all dilapidated school buildings in the district by next academic year for effective teaching and learning.
Mr. Adjei-Dwomoh said the assembly was mobilizing resources to reward deserving teachers to boost their morale for an improvement in the fallen standard of education in the area.
Mr. Enoch Osei-Sarfo, Acting District Director of Education, said the workshop was part of the National Accelerated Literacy Programme (NALAP) designed to equip majority of children at the basic education level with skills that would improve their learning abilities.
He said as part of the NALAP project, Ghanaian languages would become the medium of instruction from kindergarten level to primary three, while English language would be used for instruction at the upper primary level.
Mr. Osei-Sarfo appealed to teachers that as agents of change, the success of the programme depended on them and appealed to them to work hard in this direction.
Mr. Yaw Ntim-Korsah, District Assistant Director in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD) said about 80,000 teachers nationwide were expected to undergo the training at the NALAP workshop.
He called on the participants to take the programme seriously so they could impart the knowledge and skills they would acquire to their pupils.
