Mr. Benjamin Boakye, Science Master at the Methodist Primary and Junior High School at Fiapre in Sunyani West District, has called for the provision of litter bins and toilet to improve sanitation in the school.
He appealed to the Sunyani West District Assembly, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists to assist the school to acquire these sanitary facilities.
Mr. Boakye told GNA that school children and teachers used a community toilet in the town at a fee of 10Gp and went to toilet in the bush whenever the facility was closed.
He made the appeal after the African Media Aid/Global Media Foundation, a Sunyani-based non-governmental organisation, held a campaign in support of the World's Longest Toilet Queue, at Fiapre.
Mr. Stephen Asante, headmaster of the school, said that the toilets of the school broke down and the authorities had appealed to the district assembly for assistant to no avail.
Mr. Raphael Godlove Ahenu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, said that everyday, 4,000 children across the globe died because they alongside, billions of others have no access to safe sanitation and clean water.
He said world leaders had not done much to solve the problem that was undermining the fight against poverty, ill health and indignity.
Mr. Ahenu said in April this year, officials from countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, would meet in Washington, to discuss about sanitation and water.
He gave the assurance that the NGO would support the school to acquire toilet facilities.
The World's Longest Toilet Queue, is a global initiative aimed at bringing together campaigners from across the world, to demand action from local, national and international political leaders in the provision of toilet facilities.
