Government has put in place measures to rehabilitate roads in the three Northern Regions, Mr Joe Gedisu, Minister for Roads and Highways announced this on Thursday.
He said this would provide quality road network to the regions and boost agricultural activities and other businesses.
The Minister said this when he toured the Upper East Region.
Speaking at Sandema in the Builsa District after inspecting the roads, he said, it was government's responsibility to provide good roads for its citizens to promote their socio-economic life.
He noted that the region has many tourist and commercial potentials that would do well with good roads.
He stated that contractors, who would be given the responsibility to work on the roads, would be monitored and supervised to enable them, deliver quality work.
Mr Gedisu indicated that most contractors delayed in completing their work due to incompetence and not lack of funds. He, therefore, urged the contractors to constantly upgrade themselves on the job.
He said the contractor working on the Chuchuliga-Sandema road would be given funds to complete the work.
A bridge is expected to be constructed over the river between Naga and Kadema roads to enable people from Kassena-Nankana and Bolgatanga area to travel easily to the Fumbisi valleys for farming.
Mr Gedisu said the inspection tour had enabled him to see the realities on the ground and that would help him in his future budget
planning for the region.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, was not happy that apart from the Trans-ECOWAS road that passes through Bolgatanga to Paga, no single road had been properly tarred in the region.
Mr Woyongo suggested that local contractors should be empowered in capacity building and managerial skills to enable them to live up to expectation.
