The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ahmed Baba-Jamal has said chieftaincy related conflicts and land disputes were taking away the nobility and trust associated with chieftaincy.
He appealed to chiefs and their elders to use their experience to intervene and mediate in areas where there are chieftaincy conflicts to help
restore the high image of chieftaincy.
Mr Baba-Jamal was speaking at the Aboasa festival of the chiefs and people of Akyem Kusi in the Kwaebibirim District.
He said government would support traditional authorities to restore harmony in areas of protracted conflicts and disputes.
The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Dr Kofi Asare, promised to assist in the construction of a library being undertaken by the chiefs and
people of Kusi.
He called for the institution of awards for Kusi citizens who had excelled in various fields to motivate the youth to aspire to greatness.
The Kusihene, Nana Ntiamoah Kusi Boadum II, called for the extension of electricity to the Kusi community.
He appealed to make public the results of their investigations into the death of Nana Nketia Tenadu II, former Kusihene, who was suspected to have been murdered.
Nana Boadum said Nana Appiah Akese, who succeeded Nana Tenadu, and others were arrested in connection with the murder but were later freed.
Prof. S.K. B. Asante called on the people in the area to place a high priority on the education of their children and explained that it was in
that direction that he and his wife had established a scholarship scheme for secondary and tertiary students in the area including Soabe, Kusi, Takrowase and Akyem Wenkyi
