Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has lamented that high student population of Senior High Schools (SHS)in the region was putting pressure on educational infrastructure and facilities.
He said that admission of fresh students for the next academic year would certainly make matters worse.
Mr. Onyinah called on headmasters of SHSs to generate comprehensive reports about their schools so that adequate provisions could be made to create space for fresh students.
He was opening a three-day regional education sector annual review workshop in Kumasi, which was attended by directors and other senior officers from the district education offices, members of school management committees and community leaders
from the region.
Mr. Onyinah recommended that people with Diploma in Education, obtained through the Distance Learning Programme, should be appointed to teach in basic schools.
He advised untrained teachers to take advantage of the Programme and upgrade their skills.
Mr. Onyinah asked district directors of education to ensure that their reports to the regional education office were accurate and factual.
Mr. Joseph Clement Amoah, District Director of Education for Ashanti-Akim South, called for the organisation of regular review workshops to find solutions to problems facing education in the region.
