A Medical Assistant has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing, forging, uttering of documents and falsely assuming the role of a medical doctor.
Maxwell Twumasi, is said to have stolen the medical certificates of Dr Amoah Forster Darko, to practice medicine since 1997.
He was apprehended when he submitted the certificates for an interview for job as a medical doctor.
Twumasi has pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr. D.E.K. Daketse has admitted him to GH¢5,000 cedi bail with two sureties to
re-appear on Thursday, May 6.
He is expected to report to the Police every day until otherwise directed by the court.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) P.K Frimpong said the complainant was the investigating officer of Ghana Medical and Dental Council while the accused was a self-styled medical doctor.
In March this year, the management of S.G.B. Beverages Ghana Limited (Pepsi Cola) advertised for a replacement of their Medical Officer and received an application from the accused.
The prosecution said the accused attached Medical and Dental Council certificates to the management that were forwarded to the Council.
DSP Frimpong said that the Council informed the management that according to records the certificates bore a different name.
He said management convened a meeting and when the accused attended he was arrested by the Police.
During investigations, it was realised that the accused had worked with Liberty Clinic, in Mateheko, Accra, as a medical assistant, and during that period, owner of the clinic died and one Dr Amoah Foster Darko, was asked to operate the clinic.
DSP Frimpong said it was when Dr. Darko took up the position that the accused stole his certificates and inserted his (accused) name on them.
It said the accused had since 1997 been using the certificates to practice medicine.
