The Kwahu East District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Samuel Asamoah, has given the assurance that the government was putting in place adequate measures to offer employment to the youth, for them to contribute towards the development of the country.
He mentioned some of the measures already in place to include the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), which was being restructured to
create more employment and the wooing of a number of investors to establish companies and factories to create the needed employment for the youth.
Mr Asamoah gave the assurance when he presented nine sewing machines to nine out of the twenty selected youth in the district to undertake apprenticeship in dress making and tailoring under the youth in trade module of the NYEP.
The remaining 11 would receive their machines later.
He said under that module interested youth in tailoring and dress making would be selected in the various communities and they would be
provided with sewing machines and "Master tailors" and Seamstresses would be contracted to teach them the trade within six months at a cost of GHC 50 a month.
Mr Asamoah said after completion, the NYEP and the district assembly would assist them to acquire kiosks and stores to practice their trade, and also train others to become self- employed.
He advised the beneficiaries to be disciplined, serious, and respect their masters and parents, and also concentrate on their apprenticeship to be able to complete their trade on schedule.
The DCE said the programme was non-partisan and urged the youth irrespective of their political affiliations to get involved to acquire a trade.
He also advised parents to contribute their quota to support their children to be self -employed.
The District Co-ordinator of the NYEP, Mr Addo Agyei, advised them to be punctual at their various work places, and obey all instructions from their masters for early completion of their trade.
