Relief items worth Gh 29,500 have been purchased by the Ketu-South District Assembly to augment supplies received from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for flood victims in the area.
The consignment includes 500 pieces of student mattresses, vegetable oil and 250 mini bags each of rice and maize.
The District Secretariat of NADMO has listed 6,290 people as having been affected by last months floods in Agbozume, Sukladzi, Laklevikope, Denu, Ativuta, Adina and Hatsukope.
Mr Frank Amarble, Ketu-South District Chief Executive, who inspected the items at the Assemblys warehouse, noted that the magnitude of the floods that hit parts of the country made it difficult for NADMO to provide adequate relief items across the country.
He said the Assembly therefore decided to go for more items on its own to supplement the Gh 42,800 worth of supplies including mattresses, poly mats, plastic cups, plates, beans, rice and maize provided by NADMO.
He assured victims who did not receive relief items earlier that the Assembly had plans to satisfy their needs.
Mr Amarble said the number of public facilities including basic schools and libraries affected in the recent rainstorm were being catered for, adding that NADMO had provided the district with 40 bundles of roofing sheets.
He warned that the Assembly would enforce building and sanitation rules vigorously and advised the public not to encroach on waterways and wetlands.
Mr Doe Kornyo, Ketu-South District NADMO Coordinator, said the Organisation was investigating more claims relating to the disaster.
