Issaka Abubakar, a shoe repairer, was, on Friday, sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing by the Koforidua District "A" Court, presided over by Mr Sulemana Musa.
Abubakar pleaded guilty.
Police Inspector Eric Twum-Frimpong, prosecuting, told the court that, the complainant sells second hand cloths and had a stall at the
Koforidua-Kumasi Station.
He said on May 5, a witness in the case, Josephine Dzormeku, who is a bread seller at the station, saw the convict removing some of the
complainant's displayed T-shirts and raised the alarm.
The prosecutor said Abubakar tried quickly tried to run away from the scene but was given a hot chase and was arrested.
He said a search on the convict revealed five T-shirts valued at GHC 15 and a pair of sandals, also valued at GHC 20 belonging to the
complainant.
Additionally, a travelling bag containing three men's cover cloths, a voter ID card bearing the name of Yaw King and a health card bearing the
name of Atta Yaw were recovered from him.
The prosecutor said Abubakar was taken to the station and in his caution statement, told the police that he was drunk and would not be in a
position to lead the police to the place where he stole the items.
After investigations, the convict was charged with the offence.
