Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Chief Executive, has warned health and building inspectors not to compromise on standard, but help implement the initiative of the assembly in line with the fee and performance based solid waste collection system in the metropolis.
He gave the warning on Tuesday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, when he addressed building and health inspectors and assemblymen on the need to observe and maintain law and order in Accra.
Mr Vanderpuije said the high standard which the AMA has to maintain in Accra, calls for stringent measures to curb indiscipline which was at its highest level in the metropolis.
�We have to ensure that the people are protected through stringent measures to ensure the enforcement of the laws to bring back standard of the past.�
The MCE urged building inspectors to stop all unauthorised development in Accra as well as the erection of billboards which often blocks drivers view.
Mr Vanderpuije said; �The evidence of your work is cleanliness in Accra,� adding; �that rededicate yourselves to the upholding of the laws, to ensure that discipline is maintained.�
He said there was a limit to the efforts of the AMA, with the biggest challenge resting on the people themselves.
He urged the people to change their attitude to ensure good health and reduce the frequent visits to hospitals.
Dr Simpson Anim Boateng, Metropolitan Health Director, said people should adopt a positive character towards sanitation to save the government
from spending so much money to control waste.
He said the exercise which was being undertaken by the AMA was in the interest of the public to ensure that they observed basic personal and environmental hygiene.
He said health officers would go round to assess the impact the waste collection had made on the public.
