The Ahafo-Ano North District Education Director, Mr J. A. M. Kor, has said he would strictly enforce the ban on extra classes in basic and second cycle schools in the area.
He said there was no way the directorate would allow any head of school to scoff at the official order because they should not add to the burden of parents with the imposition of examination fees.
Mr Kor was speaking at a-day's stakeholders' forum organized by the directorate to listen to the concerns and solicit views and
suggestions from the people to improve quality education delivery in the district.
It was held under the theme, "Quality education delivery: the role of stakeholders."
Mr Kor described the district's performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) as not encouraging, saying, in year 2007 and 2008, it placed 137th out of the 138 districts.
It, however, improved its position on the national ranking in 2009, jumping to the 58th spot with 58.9 per cent passes.
He blamed the poor performance of the schools on indiscipline on the part of teachers and school children, illegal mining
activities, alcoholism, drug abuse and sexual promiscuity.
Nana Adusei Twenewaa Ampem II, Omanhene of Tepa Traditional Area, urged Parent/Teacher Associations to be more transparent and accountable.
This, he said, was necessary to whip up the enthusiasm of parents in its activities.
