A Fast Track High Court on Thursday ordered that hearing notice should be served on the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)so that the case of a 28-year-old man who had been on remand for 10 years for robbery could be heard.
Kwadwo Enu, an apprentice electrician at Laterboikoshie, had been on remanded since 1999 after his arrest during a swoop at Flamingo, near
Mataheko, an Accra suburb.
When the case was called on Thursday, the trial Judge, Mr.Justice Charles Quist, drew the attention of State prosecutors that Enus case had been one of the longest standing cases in that court.
The judge said even though it was a robbery case, he had decided to grant him bail.
The court on July 5, this year, granted the accused GH10,000 bail with two sureties, one to be justified.
An uncle of the accused said they had not been able to execute the bail condition because the Police said the landed property (that is justification) was located on a land on lease at Abossey Okai.
As a result of that, the Police had declined to admit the document before releasing him on bail.
Enus counsel, Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey (Rtd), noted that his client had been on remand since 1999 and there was no evidence of violence associated with the said robbery incident.
