Nana Kwaku Asante Nketia,Ghana National Association of Teachers(GNAT) Secretary for Brong�Ahafo Region, has appealed to politicians not to play politics with the educational policies
and programmes of the country.
He said that was dangerous and could negatively affect quality education.
Mr Nketia was speaking at a meeting of GNAT members in the Nkoranza South District about the outcome of the association�s national delegates�
conference recently held in Accra.
Nana Nketia expressed concern about the constant interfere in educational reform programmes by politicians and said they should allow education experts to implement education these policies and programmes.
He cited the introduction of information, communication-technology (ICT) programme in the school curriculum and the lack of computers for
practical work by pupils and students in many schools, especially those in the rural communities and said this was a set back.
Nana Nketia said the reversal of the Senior High School (SHS) course from four to three years was another challenge facing the implementation of
the country�s educational programme.
He said GNAT had decided to formulate a youth policy with the objective of catering for the needs of younger teachers to make them proud as members belonging to the association.
Nana Nketia said GNAT had increased their retirement and death benefits of members from GHC 200.00 to GH C 500.00.
The Nkoranza District Director of Education Madam Philippa Banson, lauded teachers who had registered with GNAT for their loyalty to the
association and urged them to maintain that spirit and faith for their own good.
She appealed to teachers to take advantage of the various educational and learning programmes and upgrade themselves to be able to face the challenges of the educational reform programmes.
