Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, has asked churches to work in strong partnership with the state to address the socio-economic needs of people.
The church as an important component of the community must help in creating job openings, providing schools, health facilities, potable water and roads.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Safo-Kantanka was speaking at the dedication of a GH163,000 Tata bus for the Church at the Adum Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi.
The 58-seater bus was bought through the contributions of members of the Church and would be used for evangelism and commercial operation to bring in income.
The Methodist Bishop said the Church should not only concentrate on the spiritual upliftment of the people, but their physical welfare as well.
He said evangelism should go-hand-in-hand with an aggressive push towards improving the living conditions of the people.
He also underscored the need for Church leaders to intensify the spread of the gospel, especially in the rural communities for the growth of Methodism.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Safo-Kantanka praised Church members for the purchase of the bus and spoke of the need for the leaders to take good care of it.
Very Reverend Samuel Fred Ansuh, Superintendent Minister of the Adum Wesley Cathedral, said they would continue to explore ways to generate income to support the expansion of the churchs activities.
