Private and commercial drivers in the Ashanti Region would from August 15 receive training in the administration of "First Aid" as part of an initiative to bring down deaths through poor handling of road accident victims.
The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) is jointly undertaking the programme with the Driver Vehicle and License Authority (DVLA).
Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, Ashanti Regional President of the Society, said proper and professional handling of the injured in car crashes could significantly help to reduce fatalities.
He said the amateurish manner accident victims tend to be handled and transported to the health facilities needed to be tackled to save more lives.
Dr Opoku-Adusei was addressing a regional meeting of the GRSC, in Kumasi, at the weekend.
He said the training would not be restricted to drivers in the Kumasi metropolis but be extended to cover all the 27 administrative districts of the region.
He said trainers for the job were ready and that he was confident that the drivers and various transport associations would help to make the exercise a big success.
