District Coordinators and Supervisors of the
Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) have been asked to ensure regular and effective monitoring of teaching and learning at adult classes.
Mrs Elizabeth Amoah-Tetteh, Deputy Minister of Education, who made the appeal, said the empowerment of adult learners, especially women, through the Income Generating Activity (IGA) concept was being given a comprehensive attention by Government through the Ministry of Education.
She was speaking at the Central Regional Inter-district Quiz Competition, organized by the NFED, in Cape Coast on Thursday.
The competition, which adults from 15 districts in the Region participated, was aimed to select the best competitors for the celebration
of the National World Literacy Day, scheduled for September 8, 2010.
Madam Ekua Seguwa, a 63-year-old woman from Mfantsiman District, came first and was presented with 10 roofing sheets while Mr
Kwadwo Asante, 26, from Assin District, placed second followed by Mr Eric Pra, 27, from Agona District.
Mrs Amoah-Tetteh, who is also Member of Parliament for Ati Morkwa, called on adults to take advantage of the Division and improve upon their education.
Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins, Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, expressed regret that for the past eight years, programmes and activities of the Division had not received much attention.
He commended Government for showing great concern for the policies and programmes of the Division.
Mr Gideon Fianya, Central Regional Coordinator of NFED, said the Division would support the Better Ghana Agenda of Government.
He said that the IGA was aimed at supporting learners to become economically viable and appealed to financial institutions to grant
loans to IGA groups to enable member to engage in economic activities.
