Wilson has called on persons with physical disabilities to take advantage of the two per cent Common Fund allocation and acquire vocation to enable them to become economically self-supporting.
She said the resort to begging in the streets as the only means of livelihood by persons with physical disabilities should end.
Madam Wilson was addressing the 30th anniversary celebration of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled, in Kumasi.
The event was held under the theme "Breaking barriers - 30 years achievements."
Madam Wilson noted that the Disability Law provides persons with physical disabilities with enough protection and it was important for such people to assert themselves.
She asked them to make good use of government's education interventions such as distribution of free school uniforms and exercise
books and pursue academic careers.
Madam Wilson called on individuals and organisations to support physically disabled persons so that they could fully exploit their God-given talents and contribute to national development.
She praised individuals and organisations, which have played significant roles in erasing negative perceptions people had about the
physically challenged.
Mr Joseph Adu-Boampong, the National President, complained about discrimination against their members on the job market.
The Society, he said has established its own training centre in Ashanti to provide the physically disabled with employable skills.
Mr Adu-Boampong appealed for more support from government by way of physiotherapy services, corrective surgeries for children with disabilities and gadgets to improve their mobility.
Mr Samuel Kwesi Asare, President of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, asked members share their ideas with their colleagues as they celebrated their anniversary to enable them break all social barriers.
