The Ekye-Amanfrom market, a major yam and fish centre, in the Kwahu North District has been sub-merged following the overflow of the Afram Lake.
A number of buildings along the Afram Lake at Ekye-Amanfrom and Kwahu Adawso in the Kwahu-South District have been washed away while the occupants are putting up with friends and relatives.
The assembly is therefore rehabilitating an abandoned market at the cost of GH20,000 at Ekye-Amanfrom to accommodate the market women.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Elvis Charles Apraku led the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah to inspect work on the market on Friday during the minister's two- day working visit to the area.
He said the market women failed to move to the market after its construction in 1999 with an excuse that it was far away from the lorry park and was not officially handed over to them to manage.
Mr Apraku said 80 sheds would be provided as well as a lorry park and an open space with fence for drivers to off- load their goods.
Mr Afriyie-Ankrah advised the market women to move to the new market after completion of works, to enable the assembly to recoup the huge investment being put into the project.
