A man who stands as surety for people in Kumasi when they are arraigned and allegedly collects money from them on Wednesday, failed to produce a person he stood surety for at a Circuit Court.
Alhaji Ibrahim stood surety in the sum of GH40,000 for one Atta Agyapong who was granted bail for defrauding nine persons to the tune of GH40,000 under the pretext of sending them abroad.
However, Agyapong jumped bail, resulting in a number of adjournments.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah who described Ibrahim as a "notorious" bail contractor, whose activities are known to members of the bench in Kumasi, decided to jail him but for the timely intervention of Mr Anane Quaeba, a lawyer who pleaded on his behalf.
Ibrahim, was therefore granted a GH45,000 bail with two sureties, one to be justified and to re-appear on November 10.
He also pleaded with the Court to give him some time to sell his building to defray the bail bond.
Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh, the Prosecutor said in 2005, Atta Agyapong, appeared before the court for defrauded nine people under the pretext of sending them abroad.
He said the court granted Agyapong bail and Ibrahim stood in as surety.
