The Third Garrison of the Ghana Army in Sunyani on Thursday presented items worth about GHC600.00 to inmates of Compassion Is love in Action Orphanage at Yawhima, near Sunyani.
The items included four bags of rice, two medium size gallons of cooking oil, two boxes of key bar soap, a box of detergents and second-hand
clothing.
Presenting the items, Major Edward Awaribey, Acting Garrison Commander, stated that the donation formed part of a series of activities lined up by the Ghana Armed Forces to celebrate its community week.
He explained the week-long celebration was aimed at disabusing people's minds about the activities of the military, whom many people saw as "unfriendly, bullies and indisciplined".
"Military is the most disciplined entity in the world", he reiterated.
Reverend Charlotte Osei Kwarteng, Proprietress of the home, who received the items on behalf of the inmates, thanked the soldiers for the kind gesture and asked for God's blessings for them.
She appealed to individuals, Organisations and philanthropists to emulate the soldiers by coming to the aid of the orphanage to support it in material or financial terms.
