A 25-year-old driver charged with assault, causing damage and stealing have been granted a GH¢2,000.00 bail by Akim Oda Circuit Court.
Samuel Ahenkorah pleaded not guilty to the charges and would reappear on January 10, 2011.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kingsley K. Antwi told the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that on November 30, the complainant, Mr Ayivi Lover who lives at Akim Oda drove his hearse to convey a corpse from Akim Asuboa to the local cemetery.
He said a cross-section of mourners including the accused person obstructed the movement of the hearse, which degenerated into a misunderstanding.
Inspector Antwi said Mr Lover was severely beaten up by the mob and also lost his two mobile phones valued at GH¢250.00. The windscreen of his vehicle was also smashed.
He said the complainant however managed to drive the hearse to the police station and made a report, leading to the arrest of Ahenkorah.
