The Zonta Club of Accra has donated child delivery kits to the Golden Jubilee Health Centre at Mankessim Municipality in the Mfantseman Municipality.
The kits worth 1,000 US dollars were from a sister club in Hamilton to improve maternal and child mortality caused normally by infection, tetanus and other complications.
Mrs Emelia Adjepong, President of the Zonta Club of Accra, said Zonta International founded in 1919, is a global Organisation of women executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
Outlining projects undertaken by the Zonta Club of Accra, Mrs Adjepong said they included award of scholarships to girls, improving conditions of some hospitals and building of library projects.
Others, she said, were construction of four-bed room house for the Department of Social Welfare for use by bartered women and victims of human trafficking and provision of shelters at bus stops.
Mrs Adjepong, a legal practitioner, appealed to the health centre authorities to handle the kits with care to avoid contamination.
Mrs Mercy Antwi Boasiako, Medical Assistant of the health centre expressed gratitude to the donors and pledged to put the kits to good use to enhance attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.
Ms Helena Tibiru, Mfantseman Disease Control Officer, appealed to the Municipal Assembly to extend electricity to the centre without further delay.
