Kofi Obeng, a labourer, who stole a female goat valued at GH¢50 was on Friday convicted to a fine of GH¢600 by the Kade District Magistrate Court.
In default Obeng who pleaded not guilty will go to prison for six months in hard labour.
Prosecuting, Police Detective Corporal Isaac Owusu-Achiaw said on January 01, at about 05:40 hours, a witness in the case, a policeman
at Kade, had a tip off that Obeng and one Kofi Bawa, now at large, were offering for sale a female goat suspected to have been stolen at the Kade lorry station.
He said the witness proceeded to the station and met Obeng and his accomplice with the goat.
The witness feigned interest in purchasing the goat and Yeboah and his accomplice offered it to him at GH¢20.
The prosecutor said the witness asked them to accompany him to his house for the money which they obliged.
The witness drove them in his vehicle to the charge office and when they realized that they were at the police station, they suddenly opened the door and took to their heels.
The witness raised the alarm and chased them and succeeded in arresting Yeboah whilst his accomplice managed to escape.
In his defence, Obeng told the court that Bawa (now at large) said the goat belonged to him and asked him to assist in selling it.
