Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi,Eastern Regional Minister, has cautioned contractors working in the region that if they execute shoddy work their contracts would be abrogated.
He said he was not impressed with the quality of work of some contractors with respect to the construction of school blocks and other
infrastructure in the various districts.
The regional minister said the government was spending the tax payers’ money to provide developmental projects to the people and expected contractors who had been lucky to win bids to ensure that Ghanaians get value for their money.
He has, therefore, called on districts engineers to monitor all projects in progress to ensure that proper works with high quality were
done.
Dr Apea-Kubi gave the caution at a press briefing in Koforidua after inspecting a number of development projects in the Manya Krobo District as part of a working visit to the area.
The visit enabled the minister to acquaint himself with the development agenda of the district and also to introduce himself to the
chief and people as the regional minister.
Some of the areas the minister visited included the Krobo Girls Presbyterian Senior High School, where he inspected a six-unit classroom
block funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) at GH ¢200, 000.
In the same school, the minister inspected a two-storey dormitory block with an assembly hall being funded by GETFUND at GH
¢C800,000.
At Aklomuase, the minister inspected three different projects which included a six-unit classroom block being funded by the GETFUND at GH¢145, 000, rehabilitation of a bungalow for the District Director of Education funded by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and a construction of two- unit teachers accommodation also funded by DACF at GH¢ 45,000.
Dr Apea-Kubi assured that the government would continue to bring more projects to the area to raise the standard of living of the people and urged them to support the government.
