Road users have been reminded to adhere to road signs, driving rules, road markings and highway codes to prevent accidents during and after the Easter holidays.
The Managing Director of Anglogold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mines, Mr Billy Mawasha, said this at the company’s launch of the Easter road safety campaign.
Among the activities are spot tests for drunk driving, use of seat belts and overloading.
Advice was also given to the drivers who entered the mining area with either goods or workers about observing safety rules within and outside the mine.
He said the company decided to choose the Easter season because “Christ died for our sins and shed his blood and it would be unfair to shed
innocent blood during the period”.
He asked workers to take good care of themselves and their families during and after the Easter holidays.
Other members of staff joined the exercise and in all 79 cars were inspected while 230 individuals were screened for drunk driving at the two main gates of the mine.
