The Kade District Magistrates Court has sentenced Victor Kwadwo Boafo a driver’s mate to 18 months in prison in hard labour for stealing a bank’s passbook and withdrawing GH¢800 from the account.
, He pleaded guilty to five counts of stealing the passbook and conspiring with the bank clerk, Patrick Koomson, to steal the amount
from the account of the complainant at the Kade Agency of the Akim Bosome Rural Bank.
Koomson on the other hand pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy with Boafo to steal and stealing the amount.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu that the complainant and the
driver lived in the same house at Adankrono.
He said on January 21, Boafo, entered the room of the complainant who had travelled and stole the passbook.
The prosecutor said on January 24, Boafo went to the bank with the complainant’s passbook and conspired with Koomson, the bank clerk,
to withdraw GH¢300 from the account and shared the money equally.
On February 2 the two persons again withdrew GH¢500 from the account and shared the money.
The prosecutor said On February 14, the complainant detected that his passbook had been stolen from his room and when he informed the
bank officials they described Boafo to him as the one who withdrew the money from his account.
At about 1400 hours on February 17 Boafo was invited to the bank and was identified as the one who withdrew the monies.
Boafo was arrested and during interrogation, he admitted the offences and mentioned Koomson as the one who aided him to withdraw the monies.
Koomson was later arrested and after investigation, the two were charged with the offence.
Boafo’s sentence takes effect from the day he was arrested.
Koomson who pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and stealing is on a GH¢2,000 bail with two sureties to re-appear on May 5.
