The Walt Disney Company and MultiChoice today announced the launch of Disney XD, a new boy-focused, girl-inclusive channel for kids aged 6-14, on the DStv platform. The new channel that runs from 5AM – 10PM (CAT) daily, seven days a week, features a mix of live-action and animated programming appealing to boys and their quest for discovery, accomplishment, sports, adventure, music and humour. Disney XD is available on DStv channel 304 from Thursday 12th May to DStv Premium, Compact Plus and Compact subscribers.
Disney XD will showcase worldwide hit shows Phineas & Ferb, Zeke and Luther, I’m in the Band and Kick Buttowski.
Disney XD is a strategic addition to Disney’s flagship family channel, Disney Channel, which launched in Africa in 2006 and has proved consistently popular with kids and families.
“Since its global launch in 2009 Disney XD has been a phenomenal success. Over the past 20 months, we have launched 14 Disney XD channels across EMEA and we are proud to be launching Disney XD today in Africa.” Maciej Bral, Vice President Disney Channels CEE and Emerging Markets commented, “Disney XD is more focused on boys than our flagship kids and family channel Disney Channel, and broadens the line-up available to MultiChoice pay-TV subscribers.”
Christine Service, The Walt Disney Company Africa added, “We are very proud of the success Disney enjoys in Africa. Looking to the future we remain committed to investing in this market and continue to build not only our channel business but the wider Walt Disney Company as we deliver great family entertainment that is engaging and locally relevant to this market.”
”We are focused on continuously expanding the DStv viewing experience for our subscribers, both young and old, and not forgetting the young-at-heart. Disney XD with its strong action-flavour will no doubt delight and enthral our younger viewers,” says Aletta Alberts, MultiChoice General Manager Content.
