Mr Seth Adjei-Baah, the Member of Parliament for
Nkawkaw, is assisting 200 youth in the Kwahu West Municipality with sewing machines and driers to undertake dressmaking and hairdressing training.
He is also contributing GH¢120 to each as an apprentice training fee for the next 18 months.
Mr Adjei-Baah, who is also the President of the Ghana Chamber of Commence,said this when he presented 50 sewing machines to the first batch of seamstress apprentices to commence their training at Nkawkaw on Friday.
He said the program, which was being financed from his share of the MP’s Common fund and the HIPC fund was his contribution to create employment to the youth in the constituency.
The MP said he was seeking foreign assistance to establish a garment factory in
the municipality to employ the seamstresses and the tailors in future.
He advised the people to bury their political and ethnic differences and cooperate
with him and the assembly to create employment for the youth through the private sector since the government alone could not offer employment to the growing unemployed population.
Mr Adjei-Baah said over 900 people had been trained in batik and tie and dye making whilst some farmers were also assisted in cocoa and ginger cultivation to generate some income.
He said he had also initiated a number of development projects such as classroom blocks, rehabilitation of clinics, extension of electricity and street lights to the various communities to improve the living standards of the people.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Alex Somuah Obeng, advised the beneficiaries to take advantage of the program to become self employed to fend for themselves and their family.
Nana Arko Adusa, Saanahene of Danteng, on behalf of the parents of the beneficiaries commended the MP for his vision for employment creation for the youth in the area.
