The Educational Endowment fund dubbed, “the Bonaba Educational Endowment fund”, was launched by Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyaarum, the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, with support from citizens of the area.

The Paramount Chief disclosed this during the celebration of the "Azembene festival" of the people of the area. He said the students who were offered the support were doing very well at the tertiary level with one of them studying medicine.

The Paramount Chief said the Bongo District was one of the most deprived Districts in the region, hence, the establishment of the fund. He said education is one of the major tools that can be used to fill the gap in the development of the District.

Naba Aleemyaarum said there are still a number of brilliant and needy students who needed financial assistance to further their education and appealed to corporate bodies, philanthropists and citizens of the area to support the cause by contributing to the fund. The Paramount Chief also commended the National Communication Authority (NCA) for granting the community a license to run a community radio station in the traditional area and said it would help address challenges including poverty, food insecurity and other development challenges.

He said a Management Board has already been constituted to ensure the smooth operations of the community radio, and stressed that it would run programmes devoid of politics. Mr Albert Abongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, lauded the efforts of the Bongo Traditional Council for contributing to the maintenance of peace in the Region and urged the Council and the people in the area to help ensure that peaceful elections are held.
